Dr. Seamus Ross, Dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Information will moderate this engaging event with speakers Philip Marchand, author of The Medium and the Messenger and respondents Dr. Peter Nesselroth, Professor Emeritus, French Studies, University of Toronto and Dr. Kevin Eldred, Post Doctoral Student, Philosophy, University of Toronto. These scholars will look at McLuhan's concepts of figure/ground providing an in depth context to the  festival's investigation of the way photography mediates how we perceive, recognize and experience the rapidly changing world around us. 

Introductory remarks will be made by Dr Domenico Pietropaolo, Principal of St. Michael College in the University of Toronto (Starting July 1, 2011) and Dr. Dominique Scheffel-Dunand, Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology.
