In the infancy of hip-hop, Brooklyn-born photographer Jamel Shabazz became a worldwide phenomenon with his book "Back In The Days". His twenty-five year project to created a portrait of the hip-hop generation. Since 2002, Charlie Ahearn, director of the seminal Wild Style, has followed Shabazz, documenting his journey— from his Brooklyn youth, through army service and work as a corrections officer, to his decisive photographic interactions on the streets and subways of New York.
The film features dozens of interviews with graffiti pioneer and hip-hop historian Fab 5 Freddy, Bobbito Garcia, legendary rapper KRS-One, Jamel Shabazz himself, and more.
