Wabi Sabi: Embracing the Beauty of Decay

Deborah Barndt

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic concept and way of being. In contrast to modern, European notions of beauty, wabi-sabi honours all aspects of the organic process of natural birth, growth, and death, including decay. The photographs portray the interrelationship of decay in the natural world and in human bodies. This public exhibition will be integrated into seniors’ programming at the Parkdale Community Health Centre.
