Shafer rejects the contemporary notion that all urban space must be productive. He believes that this common line of thought leads to a denial of the true holistic value of green space. After all, what would New York or London be without Central Park or Hyde Park? Photographed from above, Shafer’s intimate portraits of Londoners picnicking provide the viewer with an unusual perspective into peoples' lives and their interaction with green space. Jonathan Enns will speak at the opening reception, presenting his seminal work on new ways of integrating green space and architecture in quickly densifying cities. Enns is director of SolidOperations and lecturer at the University of Toronto John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design.
