Diwya De Silva The Places We Grow Up

The Places We Grew Up explores two completely different environments: De Silva’s suburban Canadian upbringing in contrast with the small coastal city in Sri Lanka where she immigrated from. These photographs, captured in polarizing styles, illustrate the loneliness and lack of security one can feel in their everyday life as opposed to the places they visit, which is often seen in a brighter lens despite the harsher realities of the local residents there. Throughout their lives, immigrants will always feel a sense of unbalance, shifting from one world to the next as they try and find a feeling of belonging.
