XO examines the physiological and psychological connection of chocolate to love, sex, and desire and explores themes surrounding the use of food as supplement, symbol and fetish. The images in XO convey repetitive actions, and mediums as a form of catharsis and release from neurotic social norms. Chocolates, candy and nail polish become intrinsically encoded and imbued with a sense of conflict, whether imposed or adopted, as my investigation scratches at the surface of familiar objects again and again, exposing raw and disturbing questions about belonging, conformity, otherness and oppression.
