Chemical Compositions

Tim Johnston

Repurposing exposed photographic paper, Johnston documents the automatic chemical reactions as they appear over minutes, sometimes days. Working spontaneously with different marking tools and his camera, he explores the surface tension where liquids, light, and paper meet. The viewer is invited to get close and to step back to see an abstract world that is thoroughly photographic in content and structure. Johnston highlights the objective and subjective nature of photography in this post-darkroom world.
